History of Mother's Day

Although the concept of Mother's Day originated in Greece, it has evolved through the centuries to what we now celebrate every year on the second Sunday of May. This date was chosen as the anniversary of the death of the mother of Ana Jarvis from Philadelphia. In 1914, President Woodrow Wilson made it official - Mother's Day was a national holiday to be recognized yearly.
